New Blog Design…Again

November 13, 2008 at 5:43 pm

I apologize to you that visit my blog and not just my RSS feed. You constantly have to endure with my tinkering with the design here. I just can’t ever find a design that I love.

I tried a bunch of differnet things. My first design was a Wordpress theme I downloaded, the second design was a hacked Wordpress theme, the third one was a complete shift. For the third design I created my own blogging platform and I designed it with a minimilistic theme, it was barebones.

Then a few weeks ago I created a new design that highlighted my Twitter posts over my blog posts. I loved the idea at first, but then I didn’t like how it made it hard to find content from my blog. So after a week or so of having that I nixed it, not to mention I wasn’t a huge fan of the design I made for it — and that too was still using the blogging platform I created.

And here we are today. I’ve upgraded my old Wordpress installation, migrated the posts from my custom blogging platform into my Wordpress installation and I created a new Wordpress theme from scratch.

I think I’ll keep this design for a bit. I like the simplicity/minimilist aspect of it, but it isn’t too simple (as was the case with version 3, plain white and black). It’s got a little elegant feel to it and the best thing about it is that I can still highlight my Twitter posts without relegating the blog content as the second class citizen here.

I’m sure I’ll tweak some things as time goes on, but I can see this theme being the one. Any thoughts?

Note: Comments from previous posts are broken because apparently when you use DISQUS you cannot change the URL of the posts or the comments won’t follow it. They should create a setting where you can set a new URL structure. I’ve sent them an email, we’ll see if I can save them.
