You Never Known What Life Can Bring

October 27, 2008 at 10:56 am

An event happened today, on my way to the office, that made me realize just how unpredictable life is.

I was driving on 95 South on my way to the office and I was behind a flat-bed truck. The truck had a car on it’s bed and one in tow behind it. As we both headed into the right line to get off the exit something crazy and unexpected (atleast to me) happened.

The car that he was towing back left wheel came flying off the car. It rolled across all four lanes of highway traffic missing every car. At that very moment, I thought, crazy how that tire didn’t hit a car and do a little damage with all of these cars on the road.

Well, as it turns out, this wasn’t the end. The tire hit the jersey barriers seperating the highway. The tire immediately went flying into the air about 40-50 feet and came crashing down right on the windshield of an 18-wheeler tractor trailer headind Northbound on 95.

The truck’s windshield smashed into what appeared to be a million pieces and the lights and horns that where on the roof of the cab came flying off into traffic. I was heading in the opposite direction so I did not get a great look at the extent of the damages but it did appear that the driver of the truck maintained control of the big rig and didn’t jack-knife it.

Imagine that. Here we have a trucker who is as middle-class as they come. Working hard for his money to support his family, doing the same thing he’s been doing for 16 years, driving Northbound on 95 to make a delivery.

And then, out of nowhere, a tire falls out of the sky crashing down onto your cab. Just like that your life can change and it can come from anywhere, even a tire coming down from the heavens…

If the driver of the truck did maintain his heading and didn’t swerve or jack-knife he definitely saved lives, and I don’t know how he managed to do that. There is no way he saw it coming, it came right down onto his cab, he didn’t drive into it.

Amazing, scary and yet eye opening…

New Homepage - Moving in a Different Direction

I just changed my blog/homepage design, pretty dramatically. I wasn’t as happy as I thought when I originally created the bland black/white design.

I like to keep things simple, but I also like a good design, and this design is much better, in my opinion.

I’ve also integrated Twitter. I’m now displayed (above my blog posts) my latest five tweets. I post much more to Twitter (not that those are any more useful or relevant) but it’s a much better way to keep up on me.

Blogging takes effort & time. All of my effort & time are in other places. Twitter takes neither.

Anyways, feel free to leave some feedback on the new design.
